OMG, forgive the n00b!

So, not sure if you'd call it a "blonde moment" (natural brunette here), "duh moment", or just one of the moments my friends and family have dubbed a "Jen Moment" but you'll have to forgive me, please!

After commenting on a bloggy buddy's post about her upcoming Marathon (Rock on Morgan), she replied to my post via....

wait for it....

wait for it...

OMG, how the hell did she do that?

I have my email listed, so I do occasionally get emails from you guys, but this had my comment attached to it. Yes, she actually replied to my comment!

I simply replied: "Hey, how'd you do that?" In which she was so very kind and gracious, not name calling or dubbing it a "Jen Moment" she explained that when people comment on a post, if their email is attached to their blogger account, then I can simply hit "reply" when I get that email notification!

SO freaking cool!

I've wanted to do this, and I try to comment back on your blogs thanking you for the idea, encouragement, etc. but now I can do it via email!

So, please forgive me for not responding to your comments. I feel so rude! You all have been wonderful in encouraging me and giving me great ideas!

BTW - LOVE the clothing/shopping ideas you all gave me. I'll for sure be hitting up Target, some last chance places, and probably the Outlets this weekend!

Ok, ladies, I'm calling on you today!

This morning, after driving myself crazy and nearly in tears, I decided I need to break down and buy new clothes.

I've been dreading this because clothes cost money and I'm not at my goal weight. I dress up for work (not quite a suit, but close). I have 1 skirt that fits me, and 2 pair of pants that fit me (only after I dry them). Both pants that fit me are gray...very obvious when I wear them. All my button up blouses are so big they look unprofessional, so I wear cotton/knit tops, but even those are starting to get too big.

Don't get me wrong, I realize this is a WONDERFUL problem to have, it's just a frustrating, and potentially expensive one to have.

I want to wait until I've reached my goal weight to get my expensive clothes altered. I'm 30 pounds from my goal weight, and my goal is to reach that by June 1...slow and steady wins the race! :)

I am going to go shopping this weekend. My question to you is: what absolutely essential items do I need to buy? What do you think I can get away with?

So, I said I'd be posting a photo and an honest assessment today. Well, there isn't a photo, but there will be an honest assessment. I just don't think posting a photo every 5lbs is necessary! :P

Anyways, this past week was insane, I mean i.n.s.a.n.e!!! My day job I work for a professional association and management company. I manage a professional association and with that, I help plan/run all their meetings, as well as attend them all. Anyways, this week/weekend was a meeting. It's my favorite part of the job, but it's always so busy and very tiring.

I wasn't able to run or eat very healthy. You eat what you can find or what's provided. Fortunately, I compromised with major portion control. These meetings always force me to become dependent on caffeine. WAY TOO MUCH DIET SODA!

Needless to say, I'm anxious to "detox" so to speak and get back on my running schedule. Since I'm less than 2 weeks away from my next half marathon, I'm cutting out all caffeine and alcohol until after race day!

My half marathon is two weeks from yesterday. I'm very excited! People keep asking me if I'm ready. My genuine response is, "I'm not as ready as I wanted to be, but much more ready than my last half marathon." So, I think I'm in pretty good shape! :)

I hope you all had great weekends and races!

PS - thanks for all your encouragement!!!

I've slacked off.

Reality struck me today...again...

Hey Jen - just becuase you're boxing again and running more miles doesn't mean you get to eat sh*t! HELLLLOOOO...remember? You're trying to LOSE weight, not maintain! Silly, silly, Jen!

I shouldn't really say I'm eating sh*t, I'm not, I'm just not eating the way someone who is trying to lose weight should eat. I will admit that I have had bouts of it, but it hasn't been a constant thing. I justify it saying "Well between my 3 mile run, boxing, and abs class I burned 800 calories, I can have ice cream." or "I just ran 8 miles, I can eat whatever the hell I want!" - Yeah, if you want to maintain, of course you can, you burned a lot of calories, you can eat more, but if you want to continue to lose more, you cannot. Don't get me wrong, I'm not starving myself. The days I burn more calories, I do eat a little more (I just don't need to eat a lot more).

I posted my photo journal about 6 weeks ago or so and set some goals. I haven't been keeping up with it. Mark my words. Monday, September 28 there WILL be a new photo up with an honest assessment. I really want to post on that page at least once a month, it DOES keep me motivated, and keeps me honest.

I'm going to get strict again.

How? - Every meal will contain at least 2 portions of fruits and/or veggies and I will have at least 2 snacks every day! I'm drinking plenty of water (about 3 liters a day). I'm also going to start writing in a food journal again, I noticed I started slacking when I sopped using it.

3 more weeks!

3 weeks from today I will be running my next 13.1 miles with thousands of others. Why? Not because I have to - no, no one is making me. Not because I need to - no one will be chasing me. I will be running 13.1 miles at 7am on a Sunday morning because I can, because I want to. Wow - isn't that a great feeling?

This past weekend's run was ok. It was fun, but so damn tiring. At the end of 8 miles I was achy. Not necessarily tired, my body just wanted to stop moving.

It was a really great morning to run outside. I started around 7:30, it was about 70-75 degrees, breezy (not windy), and tons of runners everywhere! Since it was a longer run, I ran with my running pack and put my phone in there. I have this fear that I'm going to get lost or fall and hurt myself and need to call to have someone come and get me. With that said, I was able to get some photos with my phone that I thought were awesome! I'm actually looking forward to going on the trail early in the morning when I'm not running, and bringing my real camera to get some great photos.

Downtown Austin - view from the trail (lap 1)

Downtown Austin - view from the trail (lap 2)

Downtown Austin - same trail, different bridge

Football games that made me smile (aka totally stoked because I have very strong feelings for a team):

USC - LOST to Washington!
Arizona - LOST to Iowa
Texas - WON against Texas Tech
Arizona State - WON against ULM

Week and a half until Basketball season starts... GO SUNS!!!

Hope you all had great weekends and great races!

I promise, I'm alive!

Oh my goodness!!!

I have been so crazy busy, I hardly have time to breathe!

Just a brief recap

Boxing is going very well. I'm pretty sure my abs coach is trying to kill me... Some of you have asked that I post the abs/core workout on here...I will, when time permits. :)

Boxing itself is awesome, I knew it would be. My coach is happy I'm back, and I'm more than happy to be back. I've been really working on my form/technique a lot. My arms, abs, and ribs are KILLING ME and I love it!

Running is also going well. SO glad it's gotten a little cooler here. The weather has been in the 90's which is so much more pleasant to run in than 110. I have a 10 miler this weekend. My next half marathon is in 23 days! I can hardly wait.

Confession: I haven't opened my google reader in over a week, so that's why there have been no comments. I will do this soon!

Hope you all are doing well! I will check in soon.

Happy Running!

Reminded today just how in love I am...

As I write this, I've moved my lap top to my lap so that I don't have to lift my arms... Yes, I'm that sore...oh dear, what am I going to be like tomorrow?

My oh my how quickly the mind forgets the pain, you somehow choose to remember only the good, to protect you, I think - either that or to force you to believe you're actually going insane!

Today was my first day back to boxing in a few months and boy did it kick my seriously! After work I headed down to the lake* and went for a 2.25 mile run, followed up by a quick stop by the house, then off to the boxing gym.

* Austin is so cool. I work in the heart of downtown and literally 1 mile away is an awesome running trail by the lake. With 3, 4, and 8 (I think) mile trails. I tend to not follow the trail completely, so I don't know exactly how long they are.

At the boxing gym I was greeted by the owner and world champ boxer, Richard, and my favorite instructor, Joe. This gym is so great. Small and 100% focused on boxing. From the exterior it looks like a large trailer and on the inside it smells like my car smelled years ago when I picked my little brother up from hockey practice and he left his hockey bag in my trunk over the weekend while it sat in the 115 degree Arizona summer heat... From the moment you walk in you can hear the sound of competition boxers sparing, speed bags going crazy, the swoop-swoop-swoop of the jump ropes, and definitely notice the lack of a/c in the Austin summer. Ah yes, this is what I've missed! I stepped inside and am greeted with more familiar faces and smiles.

I wrapped my hands with my awesome yet stinky yellow wraps (I really should buy another pair, I just love them, they're worn in, and I don't want to get rid of them) and hit the speed bag. Yes, I still suck at the speed bag. Rocky made it look so easy while he was training for the big fight while Eye of the Tiger played in the background of Rocky III. After I felt I got in a pretty good groove with the speed bag, I switched to the large bag and gave it my freaking all! Throwing my ones and twos while tucking in a hook and my personal favorite, a nasty uppercut!

It felt like eternity, but it was only 30 minutes, it was ABS TIME!!..yeah! Right??? Wrong!!! I'm sure we've all experience the abs/core work out that's so damn intense you feel like you're going to puke...well this was that type of abs/core work out...for 3o minutes straight! And I was right next to the instructor, so I couldn't slack. It started with 3 minutes of plank, then 2 minutes, then 1 minute, then 30 seconds, and went down hill from there. I gotta say though, I'm going to get to my goal weight and have abs of steel in no time!

Conclusion: I kicked my own ass today but loved it! I was completely drenched in sweat and didn't care. I was reminded today just how much in love with boxing I really am!

Well guys, I think I need to get some rest, hopefully I'll be able to lift my arms tomorrow!

What's been going on...

Less than 5 weeks! Oh my am I getting excited! I seriously, love, love, LOVE race days!

My next half marathon is less than 5 weeks away and I'm seriously starting to get excited. I'm starting to feel the crunch for sure, but am noticeably getting more and more prepared both mentally and physically.

I was saying to the bf last night, "You know, it's pretty cool, I look like I'm shrinking, damn, and look at my legs!" Yes, I like to toot my own horn from time to time - hey, a girl has GOT to do that when she feels it because we all know there are plenty of times that as a girl we don't feel like hot s*** (even though we are). Agreed? Agreed! :)

Saturdays run was ok. I've had better, but I've certainly had way worse! Drank plenty of water the night before, woke up at 6:30, got in the car, and headed to the local Jr. High track. I pulled up to the school to find a bunch of 5 foot nothin' kids running around in matching uniforms...DAMMIT! Track meet...well that sucks!

Not really knowing the area well, and not having my running pouch, I knew I didn't want to run outside unless it was at the track. So what did I do? I headed to the awful dreadmill for an e.i.g.h.t..m.i.l.e..r.u.n... Yuck! It wasn't the end of the world, especially since it was raining and awfully humid, but still, the track would have been better...damn Jr. High track team! grrrr :P

Can I brag a moment? You are (quite possibly) reading the blog of the biggest sports junkie that ever lived! NBA, NFL, NCAA Football or Basketball, F1, Golf, you name it, I bet I watch/follow it! two NCAA Football teams played and CLOBBERED this weekend!

My alma mater, Arizona State University, completely owned Idaho State University (ok, Idaho State??? but a win is a win!) 50-3! Woot, goooo Sun Devils!

Next, comes University of Texas. My boyfriend goes to Law School there, we live in Austin, and have season tickets. They beat Louisiana Monroe yeah, it was a good football weekend for me! Hook 'em!

So, what's next? This week starts a long, busy, but hopefully fun week! I've mentioned that I used to box (like with bags and boxing rings - not kick boxing*). I had to stop boxing because of work and training for my first half marathon, but folks, I'm going back! Starting tomorrow I'm wrapping my hands and hitting the bags...literally! I'm so excited!! So starting this week my training schedule is:

Monday - run
Tuesday - run, abs, boxing
Wednesday - life cycle
Thursday - run, abs, boxing
Friday - day off
Saturday - long run
Sunday - day off

I'll be sure to check back before a week rolls by...I've been so busy, didn't mean to neglect my blog! :)

Happy running!

*- EDIT: There is anything wrong with kickboxing, many people kickbox and that's great, I just like to make it clear I don't kick box, I box in a boxing ring. It's like people saying your a jogger, there is nothing wrong with jogging, but I'm not a jogger, I'm a runner. I'm not a kickboxer, I'm a boxer.
