carne asada

Gluten free

Apparently in Texas they don't call it carne asada. The guy at the grocery store said it was obvious I was from California because I called it carne asada. Said Texans call it fajitas. I know what fajitas are...these are not's carne asada! Call it what you want. What it is, is amazing!

1lb Sirloin "fajita" steak
2 limes (juiced)
1 tablespoon lemon juice
3-4 cloves of garlic (minced)
1 tablespoon ground Cumin
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/2 c olive oil
Large handful cilantro (chopped: stems & leaves)
Sea Salt
Cracked Pepper

In a bowl mix all ingredients (except steak of course). In a large baking dish, put steak flat, pour marinade over the steak evenly (make sure every part of the steak is covered with marinade). Cover with plastic wrap, place in fridge. Let marinade 1-4 hours.

Remove and grill* 4 min per side. Let sit 5 minutes. Slice against the grain. Serve with warm corn tortillas. Enjoy!

*If you are an apartment dweller, don't own a grill, or don't want to grill in 110 degree heat, I have an alternative for you! Put your oven on Broil High. Put the meat on a broiler pan. Cook on the top shelf of the oven for 4 min per side.

This is easily a budget meal...I bought 20 corn tortillas and 1.5 lbs of steak. Fed 2 of us well, with left overs for us each to have twice and spent less than $8! (So basically 6 meals for medium eaters or 4 meals for heavy eaters).
