went to alameda

I made a trip out to Alameda, California this past week to visit family. It was a nice break from the 108 degrees of Austin, Texas. Here are a few shots I was able to get while visiting. Alameda is an island just off of Oakland (which is near San Francisco) for those who don't know...

I was born in Northern California (Santa country!) and spent my summers up there after we moved to Santa Barbara (southern California). Yes, my roots are all over that state! So it really does have a very special place in my heart. I absolutely love, love, love San Francisco and even Oakland...yes, I LOVE OAKLAND and I'm not ashamed of it! It's such a cool town. Alameda actually in it's own quirky way is like Austin. A little less "young" but it certainly has the artsy, off-beat feel. It really is great and I suggest you visit! Seriously, do it.

The photo above and directly below was taken in Oakland at Jack London Square. If you ever make it up to Oakland (and not just San Francisco) I highly recommend going into the square. It's pretty cool and has a lot of neat character.

Steeped in maritime lore, Jack London Square is one of Oakland’s most identifiable landmarks and a symbol of the city’s history as a seaport. Fronting a natural estuary leading to San Francisco Bay, the site was the heart of Oakland’s port operations, linking the industries of shipping and agriculture. It remains a vibrant working waterfront.

I saw this warehouse and fell in love with it. Besides the little sign for passer-byers, I love the colors on the building. The random red door and curtain. See? Stuff like this is found in it! PS - this print is available on Etsy

My little brother and I decided to go out on the beach, even though it was about 60 degrees, windy, and cloudy. There he is trying to keep my mom's dog warm!

From the beach we could see the city off to the right...San Francisco.
