Austin Music Hall - Don't go!
Don't normally post rants on my blog, but it needs to be said. Saw Tenacious D here last night, and I will never go back - ever. Sadly, I didn't even get to see them play.
The worst concert venue I've ever been in. They oversell their seating. Then force everyone to stand on top of each other. Staff doesn't communicate with each other. We were directed (by staff) to stand on the top bleacher of the upstairs. We left our spot on the floor to follow directions, then five minutes later a different staff member told us it was "against fire code" and that we had to move. Of course we couldn't stand in the aisles (which everyone ended up doing after the show started), and couldn't stand in the mezzanine (which everyone ended up doing after the show started). I stood for 2 hours and literally did not see a single thing on the stage, because there were 2 rows of people standing on the floor in front of me.
It is safe to say that I will never go to another event here, ever. Worst concert experience I've ever had - and it wasn't the cheapest either.
Bottom line: they oversold the venue, didn't allow people to stand around, but didn't provide a place for them to go. Why pay good money for a concert when there isn't even a guaranteed spot? If you're going to sell "standing room only" tickets, don't charge the same price as tickets with spots, and make sure your ticket holder is aware of that BEFORE they purchase a ticket MONTHS in advance.
